Supercharged Dump Trailer: Custom Mods for Hauling Tree-Stump-Slaying Beasts

Published On: November 2, 2024By

When your dump trailer is already pretty bad-ass but you know it could be even better, who do you call? Your local superhero welder, of course. That’s exactly what one of my customers did when they came to me with two awesome ideas to take their trailer to the next level. Their mission? Hauling heavy equipment to tear out tree stumps with maximum efficiency and a dash of style.

And, oh boy, did this project bring some unexpected excitement.

The Mods: Power Meets Practicality

1. A Winch Fit for a Superhero

First on the list: a powered winch. This wasn’t just about adding convenience—it was about transforming the trailer into a mechanical beast. Mounted and welded to the inner wall of the trailer, this winch is ready to pull in heavy toys, tree stumps, or basically anything else my client dreams of dragging along.

Of course, this wasn’t a simple bolt-on job. I made sure the mounting was as solid as the tree stumps it would eventually uproot. Welded into place with precision, the winch is rock solid and ready to take on whatever my client throws at it.

2. Custom Hooks for a Taller Problem

Next up: the built-in layover tarp. The issue? Taller toys and tools were threatening to rip right through the fabric. The solution? Custom hooks designed to secure the tarp halfway down the trailer, giving those big machines the clearance they need while keeping everything protected.

Here’s where things got really fun. I hopped into AutoCAD to design the hooks, ensuring they were as functional as they were sleek. Then I called up a buddy with a water jet cutter (because every superhero has a network of equally talented friends) and had him cut these bad boys out of 1/4″ steel. The result? Hooks that are as tough as the trailer itself and custom-made to fit perfectly.

A Near-Death Experience (Wink)

Just when I thought this project couldn’t get more exciting, I got the ride of my life. While working inside the trailer, I noticed something odd—it started moving. Turns out, the customer hadn’t locked the wheels or blocked it from rolling. Before I knew it, the trailer took off down my driveway like a bat out of hell.

Okay, maybe not that fast, but it sure felt like I was riding an 8,000-pound bull straight through the neighborhood. Yeehaw, right?

Eventually, it stopped (thank you, physics), but then came the fun part: moving the dumpster bull back into my driveway. For some reason, the neighbors weren’t thrilled about me blocking the road with my runaway trailer. What can I say? You can’t make everyone happy.

The Results: One Bad-Ass Dump Trailer

When it was all said and done, my customer’s trailer wasn’t just functional—it was a masterpiece. The powered winch makes hauling equipment and stumps a breeze, and the custom hooks keep the tarp secure without risking tears. Plus, let’s be real—those hooks are a work of art.
